Army to inject brown fat to reduce obesity in troops

So apparently the obesity issue is now affecting our national security but not to worry, Uncle Sam has got a plan. As reported in Wired, the military has a plan to try to inject brown fat into the soldiers to help combat obesity. Brown fat has been shown in studies to actually burn calories but until recently we believed it was only in infants and is used to burn off sugar and regulate body temperature as it’s loaded with mitochondria.

I’m not sure if this is the answer we’ve been looking for but it sure makes for some interesting reading.

The silver bullet here is to figure out how to get your body to just not want to be fat anymore, without injections, without drugs and without having to spend $150/week speaking with your therapist.

Any suggestions?

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got.” – Mark Twain

If we want to make changes in our lives, if we want to see new results that we’ve never seen before one thing is for sure. We have to step out of our box and switch some things up a bit. The number one reason people end up failing in reaching their weight goals, or for that matter, any other major goals or aspirations they have in life is simple…Fear of change. We end up clinging to that which is familiar even if that which is familiar is killing us. We’d rather dance with the Devil we know, so to speak, than to branch out and stop dancing with the damn devil and try something new. This fear of change was what always held me back before I finally released over 100lbs to come to the wonderful place I arrived at. I’ll admit, change can be scary. It takes everything you know and turns it upside down, sometimes. It can make you feel like you have no control. It’s the unknown that usually spooks us, but if you look at what it is that you are afraid might happen, often you’ll realize that there is really nothing to be afraid of. Like my friend Hale Dwoskin says, if you really look at fear, it usually has the consistency of a soap bubble. Once you dive into the middle of it you find out there really was nothing there. And once we step into our fear and face whatever scares us, we usually will have then expanded our world and never have to go back again with the same level of fear.

So whether we’re talking about fear of changing your body, fear of losing someone close to you, fear of a new job or any other major life change, step into your fear and learn to embrace change…change is about the only thing that is constant in our lives.

Have a awesome day!

Nothing like a little digital awareness. The products are getting cooler and cooler. I wore a pedometer for all of my 100lb weight release journey…Still do.

The fourth Simple Truth deals with Awareness…It states “It is far easier to change that which we are aware of.”

All through my transformational journey I realized the value of staying aware of what I was doing, or not doing. What I was eating, what I was thinking, what I was feeling. Now it can be very difficult to try and control all of those things but the fourth simple truth doesn’t say to change anything. It just tells us that it’s easier to change it if in fact we are aware of it.

I am all for technology that does this for us mindlessly. One less thing to keep opened up on the desktop, ya know.

Have an incredible day and try and make someone else’s day a little brighter…it doesn’t cost anything.

The USDA just released the plan to make our school lunches healthier. The major changes are in the following categories.

Ensuring students are offered both fruits and vegetables every day of the week;

Substantially increasing offerings of whole grain-rich foods;

Offering only fat-free or low-fat milk varieties;

Limiting calories based on the age of children being served to ensure proper portion size; and

Increasing the focus on reducing the amounts of saturated fat, trans fats and sodium.

It’s noteworthy that this modification to the Healthy Hunger Free Kid Act of 2010 would create the first major increase in federal funding of 6 cents per meal, the first real change in 30 years. Public feedback was heavily taken into consideration as the USDA gathered over 132,000 public comments while creating the new guidelines.

Learn the art of getting unstuck.

Ever feel like you’re just plain stuck? Your weight isn’t moving, your job seems like a dead end, your relationships aren’t what you’d like them to be. Well, you want to know how I got unstuck when I found my 100 + lbs transformational weight release not moving as quickly as I’d like?

Simple. Just by realizing you’re never really stuck. What I mean is that in life, things are constantly changing every day. There are new people, new environments, new problems, new policies, new rules and most importantly new opportunities every single day. No two day are ever the same, even though it may feel like it as you bang away doing many of the same tasks every day.

So why do we end up feeling stuck? Because we end up making the same choices day in and day out. You see, there is always more than one way to look at the things. You can play the victim or you can play the dynamic character that solves the problem. By realizing that by making different decisions every day you will change your reality (even if you make it worse, I swear that’s better than being stuck) and this is a much more empowering decision than believing that you are stuck. You are never really stuck, you just keep re-creating the same experiences over and over through your almost identical decisions.

So…take a different way home, talk to someone different, read a new book, check out that different website about that thing you are interested in, pick up a new magazine, walk the other way around the block, go buy a different type of clothing, start changing some of your small habits and see what happens. See if you all of the sudden don’t feel so stuck anymore. Even small changes can change your perspective.

And of course…always remember that you’ve always got your friends to help pull you out of that mud.

Be happy (it’s a choice),
