Good to see our First Lady, Michelle Obama and Agricultural Secretary, Tom Vilsack working together to improve the quality of our elementary school meals that over 32 million of our children partake in every year. The USDA just released the plan to make our school lunches healthier. The major changes are in the following categories. (more…)

Feeding Your Thoughts

January 18th, 2012 by nealon

Think of for one moment the funniest moment you can recall.  For me it was a moment when my father, my uncle and I all put in fake bubba teeth and my uncle Matt made the funniest face I have ever seen in my life…I’m laughing out loud as I write this but do you realize that both of those very important people in my life are no longer with us? Anyone Ever Teach You How to Run?

November 3rd, 2011 by nealon

Probably not. Nobody ever taught you how to walk either. Fact probably is, nobody ever taught you how to do a lot of things that there may be a better way to do (including eating). I know when I started my weight release journey the idea of running was right up there with giving my eyeball a paper-cut and putting lemon juice eye drops in right after.

Well, over 100lbs later, I actually enjoy going for a run every now and then even though the vast majority of my exercise is simply walking, but there are better ways to run.

So…if you feel like running (and if you don’t then don’t sweat it, do it when you’re ready) check out this article in the New York Times that explains a better way to run and how you can practice right in your own living room. This was created by Peter Larson, a evolutionary biologist at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire

It’s called 100 up running and it’s fast, easy and fun (and easier on your back)…my eternal promise.

Enjoy this great video and learn just how easy it can be.

Despair and Hope

July 9th, 2011 by nealon

“Just as despair can come to one only from other human beings, hope, too, can be given to one only by other human beings.” – Elie Weisel

The two opposite ends of the spectrum of hope are forever tied together by this one common thread…people and our human experience.

I remember when I was at my heaviest and most unhappy stage in my life and I felt like there was nothing I could do to change my situation. I felt truly hopeless and was certainly in a state of despair. What I felt most was a sense of loneliness. It is in those moments that we must remember (more…)
