Embracing Change

January 31st, 2012 by nealon

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got.” – Mark Twain

If we want to make changes in our lives, if we want to see new results that we’ve never seen before one thing is for sure. We have to step out of our box and switch some things up a bit. The number one reason people end up failing in reaching their weight goals, or for that matter, any other major goals or aspirations they have in life is simple… (more…)

It ain’t about how hard you hit…It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. – Rocky Balboa

January 20th, 2012 by nealon

I’ll never forget the day that I made the decision to pick myself up and try again…the day that started my transformation and brought me to where I am today. But, there is something else I’ll never forget either; the hundreds of times that I have failed at the same endeavor.

Failure, I have come to understand, is just a part of the learning process.  We all fail from time to time.  This is how we learn. Children fail at walking, until they get it. We fail at math, until we get it. We fail at driving a car sometimes, until we get it. We fail at dating, until we get it (hopefully). I failed at getting healthy, until I got it and learned the art of weight release. It matters not how many times you fail, but how many times you get back up and try again.

Get up…try again. You can do it!

It ain’t over till you stop breathing.

Be great today!

“I’m going to be in bed for at least a couple days; this sucks.  Its a reminder of just how unpredictable life can be.  I have been doing everything perfect and I still get kicked in the….”

Ever feel that way, like you’ve done everything right and still you end up back where you started?

If so, you are not alone. This is actually from a very good friend of mine and someone who is in about the best shape of anyone I know…my personal trainer.  If it can happen to him, it can happen to any of us.

I just want you to know that you are not alone and that you can and will get up again.  In the face of defeat is where we often show our true character.

So here’s six helpful tips to getting back on your feet again after a setback. (more…)

Broken Windows

December 4th, 2010 by nealon

Say cheese.

I’d like to share a personal story with you that I think can change the way you look at things. One of  my children has allergies that have his nose full of boogies at this time of year. When the poor little guy sneezes, they come out in full force (not sure where he keeps them all). The other children at school were calling him “snot monster” which took me back to childhood memories of being made fun of for my weight and I have to tell you, my heart just about broke. We went for a ride and had a talk.

“Hey B, did I ever tell you about the time Poppi and I built a house and the kids down the street kept throwing rocks at the windows just as we were about finished with the home?”  I’m glad he still remembers his Poppy.

How do you get there from here?

October 22nd, 2010 by nealon

The only step that ever counts is the next one.

So many times we find ourselves at a place where we just can’t see how we’ll ever get there from here. Sound familiar?

This is exactly how I felt when I set out to lose my excess weight.  The truth is I didn’t know how I was going to do it.  I only knew I had to get started and I had an idea as to what direction that should be in.

Many times if we look at the entire task of what needs to get done it can be very discouraging but if we can take it down in bite size pieces it’s a little easier to handle.  And though we may not always know the entire way to get to where we’re going at any given point, you only need to know where to place your next step. Remember the scenery always changes after each step and new opportunities will arise and new decisions will always be around to be made.  You don’t have to figure it all out at once. I always find that when I try to do that, it’s all too easy to get stuck in overwhelm and not do anything.

People so often ask me how I lost over 100lbs and I tell them I didn’t lose 100lbs. I don’t think I could have done that.  I let go of one pound…over one hundred times.

Make sense?

So…what is your next step?  What direction do you need to go?

Feel free to leave a comment. Your words offer encouragement to many others.

Be well,

Overcoming Adversity

September 3rd, 2010 by nealon

This is dedicated to my brother whose apartment caught fire last night (faulty wiring) all while his wife has been in the hospital for the last week with a serious condition and in the midst he’s been taking care of his 5 girls..Hang in there bro…love ya!  It get’s better.  I should set you up a donate button.

Does it ever seem like the deck is stacked against you?  Like the harder you try the harder it gets?  Like just when you think you’re breaking through a barrier that another bigger one jumps in your way?  I know I have.  During my journey to prosperous health I had more than a couple of set backs, detours and just plain two by fours across the back of my head.

Well, here’s what I’ve come to appreciate about when you’re down.  It has been said that our greatest moments of explosive growth and advancement are quite often preceded by what may look like “low moments”.  The theory being that the energy required to lift you up to the next level is obtained by crouching down low before the leap, like a high jumper before a jump or a cat getting ready to pounce.  I know I have seen it in my life and when I see adversity coming or things are looking down at the moment, I take it as a sign that some great moments are just around the bend…don’t miss your jump!
